Based on the books by Kass Morgan, this show takes place 100 years in the future, when the Earth has been abandoned due to radioactivity. The last surviving humans live on an ark orbiting the planet — but the ark won't last forever. So the repressive regime picks 100 expendable juvenile delinquents to send down to Earth to see if the planet is still habitable.

@nexexcalibur Personally, I wouldn't call it best, but it is a good one, quite entertaining to watch
Unrealistic? Cmon people, get off of your high horse, if you want realistic drama go watch sopranos or something (nothing wrong with that, but this show is sci-fi). And even though its CW show its pretty entertaing to watch. Certainly best new show this year...
@Tante Thank you for replying to me, it's nice to have some things answered! Why did the Ark go into space in the first place, did it just contain scientists etc originally and everyone left on Earth died then? That does make a lot more sense than how I interpreted it. I must have missed that part during the recap at the beginning of the episode.
@meerareed Hiya just chiming in real quick with a few things - though I do agree that the show has a huge amount of issues&plotholes, some of the ones you mentioned are actually explained. Shocking, I know :) So please don't see this as an attack on you, just trying to be helpful.
"Why did they have those stations up there in the first place" - The Ark originally was constructed by combining all the space stations that were already up there at this point - not that unrealistic considering we already have some up there.
",did they conveniently have supplies and the right amount of space for the human race?" Nope, the humans on Earth were pretty much assumed to be dead (though obviously with the Grounders existing some must have survived, not that the extent of the damage of the war was ever told in detail). Everyone on the Ark are descendants (presumably several generations) from the Astronauts, Scientists etc. that were in space at the time of war on earth.
"And if it was a random nuclear reaction then how did they have the time and effort to gather all of those people and manage to put them into space?" See above, no gathering occured, people on the spacestations attached them together when they still had extra parts & new shiny working spacesuits in order to build what is now the Ark.
Again, definitely agree that this show is very plot-holey and not attacking you in any way :)
(Oh and yeah, total lost/lord of the flies type wannabe. I like the idea of having a tv show with kids stranded and seeing what happens but not with this weird silly storyline and on a network like CW. Something darker and better quality would have been better)
I watched the first ep and like everyone says it is beyond unrealistic. I could list all the problems but the main ones I think of off the top of my head are: why would they send child convicts and not adults that they just throw off the station that would be more mature and collect data from an intellectual standpoint? Why are the animals all the same species e.g. deer if the whole planet supposedly got completely and utterly destroyed, or did it just get kinda radioactive? Why did they have those stations up there in the first place, did they conveniently have supplies and the right amount of space for the human race? And if it was a random nuclear reaction then how did they have the time and effort to gather all of those people and manage to put them into space? Just /some/ of my problems lol. I might watch a few more episodes as I like survival stuff but damn it makes no sense.
I find the things that happen on Earth in this show to be pretty boring, melodramatic, and angsty. However, the politics of the Ark are pretty entertaining. If we could forget the teenage crap and instead have a show just about the Ark that'd be great.
I'm rolling my eyes every episode.. But it's not THAT bad.. I even enjoyed the last episode, maybe it gets better..
This is definitely a guilty pleasure show. Pretty dumb but hilariously entertaining.
@MarinaB ...yeah, I get the radioactivity part, but still that stupid deer won't get out of my head hahaha
@m0nja that scene with the panther/black cougar/idk wtf was TOTALLY Sawyer shooting the polar bear. I think they're trying a mix of Lost, Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games here.
But I guess the giant animals and mutant apes are there because of the radioactivity?
Am I do only one who thinks this is The Lost wannabe? Seriously...space ship vs. plane crash, deserted earth vs. lonely island and above all "we are not alone" theme?
Also, 100 years is a pretty little time for giant animals and mutant apes to inhabit the earth, but yet deer is the same with just a tumor bump on the head?!?
Hopefully, it will get more realistic, but these two episodes were just about bunch of teenage kids fighting each other for the power and don`t even think about the food...
Pilot was very much nothing but teenage drama, second episode still too much 'omg does he/she love me' for my taste but shows more potential on the 'mystery' side of things...
I do hope the environmental stuff is going to get more realistic, f.e. the butterflies in ep 2 really should have been poisonous or something considering their intense coloring which is usually code for 'don't touch me I am dangerous' with flora or fauna. I know things might have changed etc., but so far the only natural danger that was encountered was a black panther kind of thing (and of course the humanoid threat) and it makes it weak in the survival area of the show.
Overall: Doesn't live up to its potential, but occassionally entertaining enough to watch on the side while doing something else - similar to shows like Vampire Diaries, Star-Crossed, Grey's Anatomy or Reign.
It's a shame...a big shame. I mean, this has some potential, but everything has been turned into childish drama. We'll see what happens with the next episodes, but for now (pilot) I have a BIG feeling of a "Lord of the flies" reshaping for the kids, and not in a good way...
I like it.
Such a waste of time, boring and wannabe drama but it's just some high school sh... :D
This is terrible, i advice everyone to not waste their time unless you are a teenage girl.
b0sse biggest joke in this site, however looking forward to this.
@FunkStar Yeah, thats how I managed to find it too.
@b0sse had the same problem, went to tvrage.com and searched for "the 100" and then saw it labelled as "The Hundred"
