As Robb Stark and his northern army continue the war against the Lannisters, Tyrion arrives in King’s Landing to counsel Joffrey and temper the young king’s excesses. On the island of Dragonstone, Stannis Baratheon plots an invasion to claim his late brother’s throne, allying himself with the fiery Melisandre, a strange priestess of a stranger god. Across the sea, Daenerys, her three young dragons and khalasar trek through the Red Waste in search of allies, or water. In the North, Bran presides over a threadbare Winterfell, while beyond the Wall, Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch must shelter with a devious wildling.

"Power is just power" :D
Carice says on Twitter that they asked her to keep her own accent. I don't mind it though, at least it's not Denglish (steenkolen-Engels).
@Kiddo I agree with that. I'm no expert on accents at all, but by reading the books, we know that of course that Melisandre isn't from Westeros, she's from Asshai, a city from across the Narrow Sea. We know that there, in almost every city they have a different dialect (or one dialect for every nine of the Free Cities), so I guess that the different accents that those characters have should be fine. If not, at least Carice van Houten looks pretty similar to what I have imagined Melisandre would be.
@Jakurdo Yeah sure, I agree. But I also think that not having an accent that was already familiar to us (I mean, compared to the rest of non-Westerosi people we've already seen) was just what was intended in the first place, and in my opinion that accent added a bit of, let's say, mystery, which is Melisandre's thing.
Of course I'm no expert on accents and I don't know if there'd be a more adequate one, but Carice Van Houten's works fine to me. :)
@Kiddo Agreed, but characters like Shae en Illyrio have accents that make sense (to me at least). Considering where Melisandre comes from (sure, we don't really know much about that region), I highly doubt anyone ever envisioned her having a Dutch accent.
In my experience though, non-Dutch people can't really tell. Or are at least don't seem to be bothered by it.
@Jos But if you have a listen to the characters' accents, the only ones that have a typical British one are the Westerosis, and of course Melisandre isn't from Westeros. People from across the Narrow Sea have other kinds of accents. (E.g.: Shae or Illyrio.)
First and last part are amazing, also the Cersei scenes. But casting Carice van Houten was a big mistake: she's a decent actress in her Dutch roles, but her English is seriously failing her. That cotton-in-mouth accent is utterly distracting.
Fantastic! The intro alone is worth cuming 2
