Sophie is busy with her wedding preparations, although the Hengascher bourgeois rituals really get on her nerves. Grateful for every distraction, she runs after the fleeing jewel thief “Marilyn” in the middle of the wedding dress fitting. Sophie is also suspicious of the archaic May Festival rituals, in which May Queens are auctioned off to the “highest bidder”. Lo and behold, the head of the May Committee, Josten, is found dead. He appears to have died of a heart attack just before he was about to hang himself. But Sophie doesn't quite believe in a natural cause. Finally, last year, the unsympathetic bought May Queen Tine, girlfriend of May Committee member Sascha. Tine stubbornly keeps quiet about exactly what happened back then.
