It is the quarter-final and the six best chefs from the week's heats return to the MasterChef kitchen to continue in the pursuit of the winner's crown. They must prove themselves to Marcus and Monica in two challenges set to test even the most experienced chefs.

Monica and Marcus ask the chefs to reinvent and reimagine a great family favourite - fish and chips. They will need to elevate the dish to a new standard without losing its heart and soul. The chefs need to dig deep and deliver a reinvention dish that is inspired without going off the rails because at the end of this round two more chefs will be going home.

Next, the remaining four chefs cook for some of country's most discerning restaurant critics. With a two-course menu of their own design, this is their chance to catch the eye of three people who don't mince their words when delivering a verdict. This week's food critics are Jay Rayner and William Sitwell, joined by Amol Rajan, editor at large of The Independent, who is not bashful about bringing his opinion to bear. With only one hour and 15 minutes to cook a main and dessert, the chefs menu must wow the critics and win over the judges. Who will convince Monica and Marcus they have the talent to stay in the competition?

Only the three most talented chefs will make it through to knockout week.
