Birgitte is appointed Royal Investigator and begins to hold talks with the other parties, but intrigue on all sides threatens to bring down her government before she can even put it together. Laugesen, with the other left-wing parties behind him, demands that she step down and recommend him to take her place, offering her the Foreign Ministry and a few others in return. Hesselboe, too, approaches her, offering her several ministries, including a new Ministry of International Development, if she joins a right-wing coalition with the Liberals at the head. To make things even more complicated, Laugesen's downtrodden second-in-command Troels Höxenhaven, whose hopes of becoming Justice Minister had been dashed, secretly offers to release xenophobic e-mails written by Laugesen if she agrees to support him.
