Kraft Lawrence, a 25 year old peddler traveling from town to town selling and buying various things to make a living during a period much like Europe in the Middle Ages. One night when stopped at the town of Pasroe, he finds in his wagon a 600 year old pagan wolf deity girl named Holo. She appears to be that of a 15 year old girl, except for a wolf tail and ears. She introduces herself as the town's goddess of harvest who has kept it blessed with good harvests of wheat for many years. Despite having the responsibility to watch over the town, she wants to go back to her homeland in the north called Yoitsu, she believes the people have already forsaken her anyway and that she has kept her promise to maintain the good harvests. She manages to bargain her way out of the village by making a deal with Lawrence to take her with him. As they travel, her wisdom helps increase his profits, but at the same time, her true nature draws unwanted attention from the church.

So it's a show with three main plots:
1) Teach the audience a bit about old time peddling -- I dunno how this idea actually worked out pretty cool, but it strangely did. It's like Code Geass or Death Note where the main characters spend 80% of the show -explaining- and yet it works. It's almost like actually having these conversations really. It's hard to explain, but it really works.
2) Constant ripping on Christians, the Church, and even the god of the religion itself. . . They don't ever out and out call the religion wrong or evil or anything, just instead they make a point of saying "God help us" all serious but half-hearted like before each and every evil thing anyone does. . . they did get one REALLY good line out of this though that I won't spoil. It (and thus the whole attitude of the show) can be seen as an affirmation of Christianity by denouncing those who have perverted it. So the show works for people with any opinion of the religion (unless they're like the people depicted).
3) Romance -- they really go after this point for the first few episodes and then back off it just to be dicks. Well all right, they back off because it's REALLY hard to make characters who are actually together interesting, just as it's REALLY easy to profit off either bad relationships or the 'will they won't they' thing.
The show is -fairly- well written, very average in fact but certainly on the better end of that whole area, and the animation is very appropriate if not exactly impressive or anything.
Despite the show being almost wholly dialogue, there aren't a lot of throwaway scenes honestly, but it still could have been done in movie format instead and been a lot better that way I think.
Definitely worth watching, and on the better end of decent, and more than watchable. The show may not stick with you forever like a small handful are known to, but it is entirely serviceable and earns its right to exist.
