Based on novels by author Jeff Lindsay, Dexter follows the life of Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a charismatic blood spatter analyst who works in the forensics at the Miami Metro Police Department. On the outside, Dexter seems like the perfect guy -- he has a sister, Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), that adores him and a steady girlfriend, Rita (Julie Benz), with two kids that look up to him. However, what they don't know is that Dexter moonlights as a serial killer, only he isn't your typical killer. Basing his life on the teachings of his foster father, Dexter only kills people who truly deserve it: he ensures that those who got away with horrible crimes will never kill again.

@Frantic I never look forward to an episode of Dexter to be quite honest, but I just want to know how it ends :(
45 minutes of time-wasting :p
@kakature Stopped following this show halfway through season 3, I just didn't like it anymore. The moment you don't really look forward anymore to the next episode, the series has had it's best moments...
@ColeFrost I really can't agree. Season 5 was by far the worst (even season 3 topped this one). Lumen was horrible (what a bad actress that girl is). If season 6 is like season 5, I'll quit watching this show.
I agree with one thing though: no season of Dexter will top season 1. It's been going downhill ever since.
And how the hell does this show get 4.6 stars? That's more than The Wire and as many as Game Of Thrones. Disgrace.
@Reverz
Seasons 2-4 were simply repeats of season 1. Devaluing the supporting cast, Dexter chasing that one killer, and the annoying Dexter/Harry moments. Season 5 actually changed it up. It was the first season to actually change the formula.
Virtually every article and review, even by regular people, that I have read, have agreed with me. People were just sick of the same thing over and over. In my opinion, season 2 lived off from how good season 1 was, Season 3 wasn't anything special and season 4 lived off from John Lithgow and the surprise ending.
Season 5 had the strongest structure, but not the strongest killer. Adding in multiple killers, a sidekick, using the supporting cast more, and using Harry less made the show better, in my opinion. It was better than 4 seasons of the exact same thing, over and over. Nothing will ever top season 1, of course.
Reverz, I'm getting the feeling you get too much into shows. I'm not trying to insult you or this show, but I read what you said about Entourage and it was the same thing, about how people are getting too over dramatic about it, but not realizing you are the one who does.
I'll tell you exactly how I think. You can get a look inside my head. I always seperate emotion, bias, and anything else like that. I always take everything on a case by case basis. I don't even pick favorite sports teams or anything. I give every show the ability to impress me at any time or to disappoint me. If something is bad, I say it is bad, but that doesn't mean I didn't like it.
Think of it as starting everything at 0 and allowing it to always go back. I go into every episode, every season, and every show with that attitude. Going in any other way would mean letdowns or bias. I would either end up disappointed or defending it when I shouldn't.
In short, my head is always clear. Does it make me right or wrong? No, but at least I am trying. I will always call it exactly as I see it.
I don't see how you can say Season 5 is better then 2,3 & 4. If anything S5 was imo the weakest season so far (not saying it wasn't good).
@digibron - watch all of it, trust me - it's excellent ;)
And, as @ColeFrost said, season 4 has a cool serial killer (but not cooler than Dexter, of course) :)
@ColeFrost I have heard it's worth sticking it out until the end... maybe I'll get around to it one day!
@digibron
@ThibaultDC
Seasons 2, 3, and 4 were all weak. Pretty much the same thing over and over. Season 4 had the best killer, though. Season 5, out of nowhere, was really great. They changed a lot of things about it, including using the supporting cast more.
If you can get there, it is worth it, but... it won't be easy. I did it by watching the show each year, when it came out. I would not want to to watch the seasons back to back.
@digibron Same story here ..
Season 1 was amazing, Season 2 was good, struggling to get any further through Season 3...
