@emonquente I'd also prefer it if FMTV pulls through somehow. It's pretty much exactly what I need, with room for improvement here and there. Keeping track of shows manually is a little too much work for me, cause I usually watch my shows on a daily basis or spread over the week. Only a handful of series I binge watch when the entire season has been released, so FMTV is a real solution for me. And it's not like I've -moved- to another site, it's more like... I just need a dashboard which shows me what I can watch! The sooner FMTV gets itself back together, the happier I'll be!

And no problem man. Like I said, I simply stumbled upon your profile, saw your comment and figured I'd answer it!

@RalphOenix The only point of followmy.tv (for me) was the "time wasted" bit, and a little community here and there. honestly, a move doesn't seem worth the effort. Importing to see what would happen was fine, but doing manually, or even actually using another site after years here. . . yada.

It's fine. I used to just keep a folder on my pc with a folder for each show I watched and a general time of the season start. It is entirely possible to follow stuff on my own, and that way I got to watch several episodes of a show at once, the middle ground between keeping up with everything and binging by lagging a season behind everything. I like all three methods really, but without followmy.tv, keeping up with everything except when I happen to think to check jsut isn't happening.

On the other hand, I'd be happy is followmy.tv survives somehow and starts working again within a year. Longer than that and I'd likely lose interest.

thanks for the advice tho mate. the thought is appreciated.

@emonquente Ouch!

In the comment section under the FMTV blogpost (link in my previous post) a user named 'janp' (whom I assume is an admin/owner at TVMaze) said, and I quote;
"Yes, if you have a huge amount of shows, it could be the case that it won't work automatically. If that's the case try asking for help on our forums."
Perhaps you could try that out. Otherwise you may have to do it manually (like I did on TVShowTime (another tracker) about a day before I heard about the TVMaze importer =.=). I just searched for 3 fairly unknown anime series on TVMaze and they were found, so I guess they do have (most) anime series.

Bottom line: I think you're in the group of people with "a huge amount of shows" and it didn't (entirely) work automatically.

@emonquente I'm not sure if you know yet, but TVRage - the database FMTV gets all its data from - has been offline for a couple of weeks now. TVRage was also the only database, or at least the only big one, connected to FMTV, so as soon as that went down, no new data came to FMTV.

There's a little bit of information on the FMTV twitter: https://twitter.com/followmytv
And in this (currently hidden, but still accessible) blog post: http://followmy.tv/blog/16/the-tvrage-situation

In the comment section of the blog post there are some ideas and alternatives to FMTV.

On the twitter account it said FMTV's admin recently took a vacation from work to sort this all out, but who knows how long that'll take, seeing as this has already been going on for like 2 months now.

I'm not entirely sure if I should say this, but I might as well. The creators of TVMaze, which is basically a database like TVRage and a tracker like FMTV in one, has been actively following the TVRage and FMTV situation and has a temporary solution(?). You can read about that here:
http://www.tvmaze.com/blogs/8/import-your-data-from-followmytv

I have not tried it myself, so I'm not entirely sure it works and it does ask you for your FMTV username and password, so it is a little shady, but you could change your FMTV password beforehand, so if something goes wrong at least the damage will be contained to just FMTV.

Anyway, might you be wondering how or why I'm telling you this: I got here through Momo's profile and saw your post. No creepy shit or something (I think).

If you had already found out about this in the 5 days since your post, then please ignore all this and apologies for wasting your time! ;p

Soo, new season is coming... what are you looking for mostly?... and ...have you had time to check out Summer Season yet? Which one was your favourite? :P I'll go with Charlotte.. Was about to drop it but held on it for one more episode and damn.. it was good :)

It took all damned day, most of it at 4x speed -- but I did it! I caught up!

Dear god! I spend six weeks reading instead of watching anime and I'm 163 episodes behind XD for spring season (which is technically over in just a few days!)

Also, it takes about 3 hours to manually select 163 episodes to download >.>

*sighs* Time to shelve my books for a week or two, and then get back to them until about halfway into Summer season.

I revoke Fate Stay Night's honorable mention, the way it messes up this time is, if anything, the most boring of all the ways it has told its story badly.

Seriously, how many episodes have they spent with Archer explaining his, like, 4 word motivation now? I get that they're trying to do some kind of deep philosophical inquiry . . .maybe .. . but they're not raising any interesting questions that merely stating the situation doesn't do on its own.

In other words, Show, Don't, Tell -- and this is triply true for visual medium!

Besides which -- I'd argue it's better to leave the reader to interpret freely, without a presumed 'right' answer. . .this doesn't prevent that, but it also does nothing to aid it.

@Artifex Kinda comes with the territory for movies in the damn 60s. But there's about a million homages, rip-offs, parodies, and remakes since then, watch one of them instead.

Honestly, I think 2001: A Space Odyssey has lost a lot of its relevance, but maybe that's just me. That, and I only like two Kubrick movies, one of which he was dead for. Dr Strangelove and A.I. That said, Dr. Strangelove is one of my favourite movies, for obvious reasons.

Artifex
Artifex (Oct 21, 2014)

@emonquente And I will also was 2001: a Space Odyssey. I tried it once, but the first 15 or so minutes were rather boring, so I shut it off.

@Artifex It has a Hal 9000 episode :P

@emonquente Yeah, I've heard from someone else who recently started X-Files that it still holds up quite nicely. I should definitely give that a go someday.

emonquente
emonquente (Oct 20, 2014)

@Artifex Lol -- basic point: Season 1 had a TOTALLY different "This is the thing the show's building toward" -- and I preferred it to "Time shift" or "Journey to Moon Titan!" or "The senator is evil!" as that driving force.

Then again, at least this show didn't take on and discard stuff so casually as, say, True Blood *grumbles* 6 damn years of frick all man.

And yeah, prolly time to re-watch it :P. I really does hold up. I was thinking of giving a round three myself. Right after I finish the X-files, which I just started for the first time every two weeks back, just done season 1. Which is, actually, surprisingly solid for 1992 lol.
