@Fllu

They can defend it as much as they want, it remains crap of epic proportions. This ending would be far more satisfying:

I think this episode in particular was pretty good. The problems came before now. Forgetting Debs 'bad time' and Vogel (not difficult to forget), and that private detective guy from a few seasons back, and Quinn almost finding out about Dexter, and Cody and Astor, and all the other stuff that has just come and gone - holy shit - I just remembered Zac. I think that says a lot.

Anyway, forgetting the nonsense that led us here, I felt like the episode was decent. Dare I say, I enjoyed it. I think there could have been more emotion around Deb dying. NCIS makes me tear up when a dog dies (twice now?) but Deb, probably my favourite character, died, and I didn't feel anything. Dexter didn't seem to feel anything. Clearly he lost it, but when he was told she was brain-dead, there should have been something.

I liked how he killed Saxon, how it was recorded, and the scene where Batista, Quinn, and Dex watch it together. That was my highlight of the season, probably. Great stuff. There were plenty of other good scenes with good acting in this ep, but they should have been standard, not special.

I'm so glad it's over now, and I'll look back on the show with disappointment, but I'll remember 'that last episode wasn't so bad'. It'll stick with me.

"COLLETON: I think some episodes worked better than others. But as a whole the Deb and Vogel story lines worked and we wanted to change it up and have the big bad hide in plain sight."

How can he say those storylines worked. One minute Deb is out of control, attempts murder-suicide, but then nah she's all good. An episode or two later she's BFFs with Hannah and actually wants Dex to go away and be happy?

I was interested when she was trying to confess. I remember it clearly because the show hasn't had my interest for years now. Deb should have hated Dexter permanently, or at least confessed properly so everyone else could hate him. He should have been on the run. Escape to seclusion or die were the options I think the fans wanted the writers to choose from. EDIT: Or be caught, of course :)

Vogel and Saxon was just nonsense. She just pops up, makes Dex run some errands for too many episodes, then we realise she made a whoopsie in not telling Dex about Saxon, her psychopath son she forgot about. Then she betrays Dexter for her lovely son that escaped the mental ward and has been sending parts of brains in jars to her door. Then she dies (deserved it, stupid, nutty woman) How interesting all of that was.

I think the writers perhaps just made bad decisions - ones that conflict with the fans, and certainly at least me - long ago. Somehow they made everything uninteresting, and tensionless, and predictable. Season 1 was great because of the back and forth game, and the revealing of the past, and the tension. I don't think the series has come close since. I might be forgetting a season I liked, but I'm never watching this show again to find out. I like that Dex grew as a person, but if that was core to the detriment of everything great about the first season, then it shouldn't have been done. On the other hand, I think a perfect killer would have gotten boring (too). Why couldn't we have real villains, cohesive plots and a developing main character?

I've loved this show for years, and it stands as being one of my favourites of all time.. And having being this emotionally invested in it, I actually enjoyed the finale. This whole season was a poorly written jumble of over-dramatized plotlines to try and give the show a good send of, which failed, but this episode was the best since e4 of s8. It had good ideas behind it, the flashbacks I wanted, and tried to do what it could and I respect that.

I liked how Dexter ended up - an empty shell of a person, for the first time no overhead of speaking or music.. Just him, alone. I love the show to bits but he's just as bad as any antagonist, and it felt oddly good to have his end be that way. I would have been upset if characters I actually liked would have been affected by his supposed death but that wasn't the case. (Harrison is /much/ better off without Dexter, and I would have liked him out of another killer's hands, but I try not to think bout that.)

I loved Debra's scenes. From the ambulance to the hospital. I loved him sitting beside her as they'd done before in other important moments in her life- it was a flashback in itself of sorts. My favourite song in relation to those two was almost spoken word for word by them. I cried like a baby from then on ofc because I'm so emotionally into their dynamic but it was a great finish. I looooved how he lost himself completely after that and I think it was because of this mindset on Harry's rule, as the #1 rule was to protect Debra at all cost and that was the one that drove him over the edge into his emptiness, imo. He broke it and that broke him. (Which is why he killed Vogel's son in the prison- he didn't care it was in daylight, he'd lost it and he needed get that last thing done.

I was however disappointed that what I thought was a build up to his reveal in season seven disappeared entirely, being one of my issues with this ep and this season. But I've loved the ride and will miss this show dearly.

I'm trying to imagine the writers and can't wrap my head around how someone would say "Yeah, thats the ending we're going to make"
