Well, that happened. Oddly enough, it's fitting, because there was no way the writers would have had the resources to give us a 10-episode mythology-driven season, complete with the world realizing that aliens exist and the population dying, even if that's what the show really needed. It just wasn't going to happen. So, with this episode, the writers basically give themselves a way out. And, honestly, it does work here and there. It feels incredibly forced, but we also get satisfying answers to mysteries from past seasons that we never thought would be solved, especially as to why the invasion didn't occur as planned. And it makes sense that Mulder would be skeptical of the existence of aliens at the beginning of the previous season since an invasion didn't take place. But his effort to find the truth in this episode complicates things, as he learns that the people who have the knowledge to tell him who, what, when, where, why and how are not "good" or "bad," but rather human begins with, yes, an agenda, but one driven by logic as opposed to the Cigarette Smoking Man's pure philosophical cynicism he has always been known for. Here, "The X-Files" makes the most sense out of everything at a time when it feels like it's already given up on itself.
This is literally an nightmare isn't it? It doens't match up with S10 at all. So S10 wasn't real? CSM also looks totally different...so S10 isn't real or this new season will be a simulation?
