Frederick safely reaches Spain. After her father's death, Margaret leaves Milton to live with her aunt in London. Thornton learns that Frederick is Margaret's brother. With the money that she inherited from Mr. Bell, her godfather, she decides to help Mr. Thornton's mill from closing.

I like how the northern town of Milton is portrayed so bleak and gloomy while the southern town of Helstone is portrayed as sunny and positive. The contrast is striking! Hence, the title of the serial. Regardless, Margaret Hale chose to be in Milton as she has grown attached to its people.
