DNA testing on Emily reveals that she is actually Scully's daughter and Mulder comes to assist her and to find out where and how the girl was born while Scully tries to help Emily with her own serious illness, a rare form of anemia.

After a long while of the main mythology stuff gradually getting less interesting and more repetitive, these episodes made a case for how it could be good through the rest of the season and leading into the movie by having an actually moving Scully arc. I still think it's a little silly she and Mulder basically forgot how to deal with shapeshifters though lol.

It's a step down from "Christmas Carol," but it's still great, even if it's rather anticlimactic.
