There are not many details known at this time, including a plot.
It is assumed that Mary McDonnell's character, Sharon Raydor, will take over the Major Crimes Unit (Or whatever it is called)... Other than her casting for the spin-off, nothing else is known.
They are planning to run parts of the final season of The Closer this Summer, this Winter, and next Summer, so they have plenty of time to think about it.
