As a Pole, I have a big problem with this show. The idea is very cool, a Netflix TV show set in dystopian Polish People's Republic v.2.0? Sounds like a dream! The main plot is quite entertaining with its mysteries and large number of threads.

The problem is that geopolitical situation of Poland in this alternative world makes no sense at all. In fact, the country shown in the show has so little to do with Poland, that the creators could as well name it "Easteuropeanstate" and say it collaborated with Axis during WWII - it wouldn't make any more difference for me.

Why?

1. Everyone would blame the Soviets or the Party for such terrorist attacks. Polish people would not believe the Party in its story, even if they saw Lech Wałęsa with a bomb and Jacek Kuroń with a detonator :) Massive protests, maybe a civil war - this is how Poland would probably look like "decades after 1983".

2. There is no Polish People's Republic in 1980s without the Solidarity movement. The creators decided not to mention any real public figures for a purpose, but they should at least explain how the Party was able to remove Solidarity from people's minds. All Solidarity leaders accidentally die in the attack? Oh, please...

3. It's not possible that the Church would help the Party "keep the country at peace" because of John Paul II being a Pope. That's a massive plothole.

4. If Poland didn't quit the Warsaw Pact, but on the other hand became independent from the Soviet Union, it would become a completely isolated country. So I don't believe in this "economic miracle" that occured in the 90s. Cooperation with Vietnam is not enough.

I understand why Netflix wanted an American (Joshua Long) to write the script, but it was a mistake. He didn't really feel the situation in Poland in the 70s/80s.

However, most of you might not notice those problems at all, so you could like this show very much ;)
