While the premise alone is frightening to consider, and the episode does have its moments - like people spontaneously combusting - things are ultimately too mundane. Mulder's fear of fire feels lazy for some reason. Perhaps it's just too generic. Like I said, it's mundane. But don't get me wrong, this isn't a horrible episode. It just doesn't rank with the season's, or the show's, best.
