Michael Long, undercover police operative, is shot in the face and left for dead by his quarries. Picked up by the wealthy industrialist Wilton Knight, with some reconstructive surgery, Michael is given a new face, along with a new identity and name: Michael Knight. Michael is offered a chance to not only bring those who shot him to justice, but also to strike a blow against all criminals who operate above the law.
To ensure his success, Michael is given the Knight Industries 2000 (K.I.T.T), an technologically advanced automobile. Using K.I.T.T.s' incredible arsenal of weapons and defenses, Michael, alongside Wilton's' successor upon his death, Devon Miles, lead the Foundation For Law And Governments' crusade against the higher caliber of the criminal elite, and to prove that one man can indeed make a difference.
K.I.T.T. is an artificial intelligence microprocessor installed in a highly advanced, very mobile, robot disguised as a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The original full name for K.I.T.T. stood for "Knight Industries Two Thousand".
