Based on novels by author Jeff Lindsay, Dexter follows the life of Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a charismatic blood spatter analyst who works in the forensics at the Miami Metro Police Department. On the outside, Dexter seems like the perfect guy -- he has a sister, Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), that adores him and a steady girlfriend, Rita (Julie Benz), with two kids that look up to him. However, what they don't know is that Dexter moonlights as a serial killer, only he isn't your typical killer. Basing his life on the teachings of his foster father, Dexter only kills people who truly deserve it: he ensures that those who got away with horrible crimes will never kill again.

I watched a bit past a certain person's death & I like how the characters dealt with the loss, but after they moved on from that it was never the same.
Oh my.. I can't even tell you how much i loved this show. But very bad ending.
Even though I loved the first seasons, and I managed to get through all the 7 I just couldn't watch 8. Really disappointing. Should have ended at 4th and I could have said it would be one of the best shows overall.
This is the most disappointing ending to a show ever. Wished I had never watched the series.
The ending of this show is as bad as the ending of Lost, if not worse ..
I've never even watched this serie. I think it is good to watch with a lot of the reviews. but unfortunately I can only watch through youtube because we are different countries. http://gg.gg/zenfone5
@az25 im thinking i might do that! i did watch the first episode of season four, and lithgow was incredible, but i just felt weird watching it. someday maybe I'll get the urge and do just that. I certainly dont plan on watching much after season 4
@az25 well, I found seasons 5 and 7 not that terrible, but the other two were really painful to watch, with all the plot holes and stupid writing decisions SHOW SPOILER (especially the way they handled Debra's death, that has got to be one of the worse things to ever happen in the history of tv series).
@kenneththepage yeah, I really regret watching 5-8 in hindsight and now that I think about, I don't remember what even happens in season 3 haha. However, I would suggest to watch season 4, if only for John Lithgow. He was freaking incredible, his performance is worth it alone IMO. Maybe watch it and pretend like it's the last season? And then you could skip all the way to the series finale to have a laugh, knowing you avoided a lot of garbage :/
i could barely make it through a painfully boring third season, and i didnt even bother with the fourth even though i knew it was supposed to be the best. First two seasons were incredible, but after forcing myself through the third and knowing that 5-8 would be somehow worse, it wasn't worth it. Really just not a very good show

You're all joking right? The ending was so very disappointing and predictable.I love me some Dexter but this season's finale was horrifically predictable and not so climatic...The writers did a half assed job for sure.

3 stars because half the show is great television. It's too bad about the other half.
I'm giving it 4 stars more out of nostalgia than anything. Dexter was my absolute favorite show for the last 6 years and i stuck with it the first 4 seasons remain to be some of the best TV i have ever seen. The next 2 were ok, but they really should have wrapped it up there before it became what it did. It wasn't the same show i fell in love with by the end. And i do not even want to talk about the finale. Ever. It's just upsetting knowing my favorite show got literally the worst ending of any show in history (that i know of). If you are starting Dexter, watch the first four seasons and stop and remember it fondly
hahahaha
Just a reminder guys: please don't post spoilers on the show page (on the episode page you still can).

Going to rewatch the 4th season soon to rinse out that bad taste the last two seasons (and especially the finale) gave me. I don't want to remember the series like that, the writers (and M.C. Hall) totally fucked it up. Dexter went from being a smart, rational and cautious killer to an absolute moron in the last two seasons.
This ending would've been so much better:

@FEER5698
Dexter doesn't suffer from hyper-rationality
