At the station, Gordon and Lucille miss the train to Gretna Green. Ena looks after the shop and finds Effie's slate with £10 owing. She lets Effie know she knows. Effie accuses Maggie and Val of telling Ena about the slate and breaks down. The party takes over the select and Ken plays his trumpet. Lucille worries about Gordon missing his exams.
