Juli 1914. Gent. Culturele avond. Gastheer dokter Philippe Boesman is er heilig van overtuigd dat er geen oorlog komt. Marie, zijn naïeve puberdochter, hoopt stiekem van wel. Voor haar lijkt oorlog immers één groot avontuur. Zoon Vincent wordt gemobiliseerd. Hij maant zijn broer Guillaume aan om zich als vrijwilliger te melden. Maar Guillaume weigert.

This first episode lacked some character development, which I think is really important in a series.
Especially Vincent. Does he just really hates Germans and go mental with his bajonet, without any reason? I want to see characters grow and develop!
Same thing with the daughter Marie. Someone (her boyfriend?) dies in battle, and the next moment she starts hating her (best?) friend because she has German parents.
One more thing that I found really annoying: "John", the colleague of Guillaume, is supposed to be a British man. But he's played by a Flemish actor who imitates a British accent. It sounds ridiculous.
