Alaska Airlines flight 261, Heading from Puerto Vallarta (Mexico) to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with a stop planned over San Francisco. Plane: MD-83. On January 31, 2000, after taking off, the crew noticed that the Horizontal stabilizer, the device that controls the flight angle, had jammed. After some minutes, the stabilizer moved all the way and this caused the aircraft pitch suddenly. The crew managed to keep the plane flying, and they tried to take control of the stabilizer again, but they totally lost the control of the plane, which impacted the sea at a high speed. In this episode is investigated what caused the problems with the stabilizer.
