Louis van Gaal (Amsterdam, 1951) is an ex soccer player and the most successful soccer coach in the Netherlands.
He was the architect of the succesful Ajax that became 3 times national champion in the first half of the 90's, won the UEFA Cup, the Champions League and the Worldcup with Ajax. Van Gaal became national champion abroad with FC Barcelona and Bayern München. In 2009 he surprisingly became national champion with AZ and in 2014 het led the Dutch national team to the third place at the World Championships in Brazil. After being fired by Manchester United in 2016, he retired to Portugal together with his wife Truus.
