Vanderbeek studied at Manhattan's Cooper Union in the 50s where he began a career in experimental video that eventually lead him to Bell Labs, where experiments in computer animation and holographics was greatly expanded in the 60s. “Video is a medium of illusion” he tells Night Flight as he describes his creative mission in a candid interview.
