Michael Latham is kidnapped in a staged car crash and Jack Bauer faces the law when he is in a trial for his actions with CTU in 2002. However, FBI interrupts the trial when they need Jack for a national security crisis involving a CIP device able to take control of air traffic. Meanwhile, the President's husband begins investigating their son's death while she handles the on-going crisis in Sangala.
