De nachtwaker van brouwerij 'Het Anker' vindt de grote baas opgeknoopt in de gistingzaal. Alles wijst er op dat de zesenzestigiarige Bob Debruyn zelfmoord heeft gepleegd. Hoofdinspecteur Tom voelt zich betrokken bij de zaak, omdat Bobs zoon Mark sinds jaar en dag een vriend van hem is. Tom kan moeilijk geloven dat het om zelfmoord gaat en zijn intuïtie wordt bevestigd door forensisch expert Lucas. Ondertussen maakt planton Els Buyens haar opwachtirig op het politiekantoor.
