While Irwan is preparing to wed his pregnant wife Hanneke in jail, his sister, Carmen, is settling into her new, anonymous life in a distant town in the Netherlands. But when a detective shows up pleading with her to testify against her brother, it seems that it won't be so easy for Carmen to leave her past behind her.
