Based on novels of the same name, Vampire Diaries follows Elena, a young heroine, who is the object of passion for two vampire brothers. Four months after the tragic car accident that killed their parents, 17-year-old Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev, DeGrassi: The Next Generation) and her 15-year-old brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen, Everwood) are still trying to cope with their grief and move on with their lives.
Elena has always been the star student; beautiful, popular and involved with school and friends, but now she finds herself struggling to hide her sadness from the world. As the school year begins, Elena and her friends are fascinated by a handsome and mysterious new student, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley, Army Wives). Stefan and Elena are immediately drawn to one another, and Elena has no way of knowing that Stefan is a centuries-old vampire, struggling to live peacefully among humans, while his brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder, Lost) is the embodiment of vampire violence and brutality. Now these two vampire brothers - one good, one evil - are at war for Elena's soul and for the souls of her friends, family and all the residents of the small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia.

5 stars to the first three seasons, but fewer to the ones that followed, so I guess overall I'll rate it as 4 stars since those initial series really did make me fall in love with the characters and the show, before everything just got sooo blah
fin
@ste92 Should have been cancelled way before that even.
In my opinion this show should have been cancelled during the sixth season. It's unwatchable now
Love this show, specially the first three seasons.
@lois Me too! I really didn't expect this, it felt so much like a season finale. I wanna know the rest! ^^
@Syrah Yeah it's long way away! I'm anxious to see what happens next.
March 15th? Dammiiiit!
Season 4 has been pretty mixed bag for me here, and a couple episodes really showed off just where exactly the writer's crutches are vis-à-vis drama. I can see it straightening out next season if they pick the right story arc but honestly. . . I think this show might be running a little low on reasons.
Oh, and yeah, never ever read the books. I read the first one because I thought it might be good. . . it is not. It read like a first novel (as in, first book the writer ever wrote at all), and like nobody bothered to edit the damned thing, or revise, or anything useful. It was really, really bad - I'm, frankly, amazed a fairly decent show came out of it (stupid as this show can be at times)
Just started watching. Didn't want to like it, but damn it, the pacing is just right.
Season 4 is a mixed bag...it has no big story.
S2>S3>S1>S4
i want more....
@lucdeli lol honestly don't bother. It's nothing like the series, it'll ruin it for you.
Can't wait til 11/10 :D
@lucdeli they're not, don't even think about reading them - timeless.
@VioletVivian are the books this good too? I'm thinking about reading them, but I need someone's opinion, someone that had already read them
Wonderful show, one of the best I've ever seen! Too much difference between the books and the show, but the cast is amazing, the storylines are very good and it is just incredibly addictive.
