Really bad episode.
@MarinaB Really well said!
I laughed with more than a smidgeon of relief when we found out the fire inspector wasn't the arsonist. It seemed so obvious from, literally, the instant he was introduced. At this stage on Dexter though, my reaction was not "That's too obvious - nah." -
I thought "That's really obvious. NOT AGAIN DEXTER; NOT AGAIN!". I have no idea whether the special intensity of this red herring was imagined/engineered by the writers, or if it's only a lucky upside to consistently underwhelming and predictable writing. It was fun though.
Perhaps they had indeed planned for the fire inspector to be the arsonist. But having read some reviews, they decided they needed something different. A last minute change. Thus, they quickly invented this new guy. The moment where it's revealed the fire inspector has an alibi is precisely where the writers started erasing bits from the script. Oh god, that's way too likely to laugh at.
Christ this season is bad.
After Dexter fucked Hannah, the season turned in a bunch of love cliches. Jesus. This is the strangest season of the show so far, because it started with killing Hannah, then killing or being killed by Isaak, but neither of those two things happened. Now the shit Koshka Brotherhood's storyline turned out in an useless Quinn's storyline. Who cares about Quinn, anyway? Debra is almost completely okay with the fact that Dexter is a serial killer and, after telling him that she was in love with him, she was forgotten by the shadow of Hannah. I'm not a shipper in this show, you see, but it really confuses me how the storylines in this season have a poorly development. This episode with the Phantom case was /almost/ a filler. The season looks like it's a huge prelude to everyone finding out that Dexter is a killer the next year. I mean, Laguerta is a completely boring character but now that she knows... the shit got serious.
(Better than past season, tho)
i agree, worst in a looong time
really, what a weak episode.
the worst episode this season.
