Wow, what a horrible season this was. Lumpy and directionless story, zero sense of character. Gives short shrift to established characters so that more time can be spent with new ones that aren't developed well. Nothing but wheel-spinning in Chicago, hours of screentime devoted to a Gillian subplot that basically turns out to be a ruse to set up a contrived scenario that kills a beloved character who's been shuffled off to the side all season and given a hollow nothing of an arc, the cowardly choice to have some Margaret but very very little. Just really inept all around.
Gutting ending
@az25 You must not forget that this show's purpose is to portray the life of Nucky. But you are right, I wish I would've seen more of Rothstein, etc..
All in all, this show keeps amazing me. It really delivers something special. It gives its fans these horible gutted feelings, but you just can't leave it alone. It's like you keep on chasing a girl, but she keeps refusing you. Sad that Richard died, he really didn't deserve this. But that's life, not all things have a happy ending. Boardwalk delivers these moments so brilliantly. What a show.
If they only had a main focus on a few characters you wouldn't have cared a bit about Richard. The power of this show is the writing an development of all the characters, even the smallest roles.
@kakature I meant learn from Game of Thrones in that specific way only of focussing more on a few characters, but I've been thinking more about this year, and actually they were much better. It was a problem last year, especially with all the gangster caricatures. I love Bobby Cannavale, but that character turned into a joke last year.
Are you kidding me, Harrow gone and Narcisse still alive? Fuck me sideways. What a sad finale, even worse so than season two's finale.
Really don't feel like watching another season but that's just my emotions talking I guess :p Still my favourite airing show.
@az25 Not a buzzkill, this season wasn't as good as previous ones. However, I don't see how Boardwalk can learn anything from GoT, au contraire.
Good finale indeed. Richard story was kinda over but he deserved a better way to go out... This season as a whole was for me the least of the four. It was uneven, good episodes mixed with boring and bad ones. Nucky was very boring this season, is he depressed? The problem for next season is that I don't have a favorite anymore now that Harrow is gone... Nelson is my number 1 for me, I hope he gets more screen time.
Gutted.
What an amazing finale... Such a powerful scene at the end.
Good finale. I hate to be a buzzkill, but this was an underwhelming season. This show has seen much better days. I think this show can learn a lot from Game of Thrones. I feel like Boardwalk tries to get to every popular character in every episode, where in Game of Thrones, they'll use an episode to focus in on Tyrion or Danyeres storylines, and use the majority of that episode to make sure that story is told right, I feel like Boardwalk should have Nucky disappear for an entire episode. Have an episode where we focus solely on Dr. Narcisse and his "empire", have an episode focusing in on Al Capone and Van Alden bashing people's skulls in or something. Instead, we seem to get the same kind of episode over and over again. That's just my opinion though, hope that makes sense.
