You can say he had a choice... but he sort of didn´t have one. He had to save the universe and to accomplish that he needed to become the warrior. The warrior isn´t by definition dark, it just breaks the promise that is the doctor.
So 8 had the choice to be a doctor or warrior so he became... the 1st warrior instead of the 9th doctor? So doctor = light, warrior = dark?
They explained how John Hurt became the war doctor... The eight doctor broke the promise he made (the promise is the name) and through him you get John Hurt who is the war doctor. This happened during the timewar so between the years 1989 and 2005.
I'm so confused right now... What was this? which doctor was that? when was this? What the fuck happened...?!
