When a fire at Felicity’s parents home is extinguished by Felicity’s father, Brian (James Laurenson), Malcolm’s problems begin to mount. Under pressure and running out of ideas, Malcolm (Reece Shearsmith) decides to stage another fatal car accident. This time, he wants to kill Felicity (Kate Fleetwood) so he and their son, can begin a new life ‐ helped by her life insurance policy. But Brian is growing ever more suspicious of Malcolm.
Assisted by his other daughter, Jane (Federay Holmes), Brian forces Malcolm’s briefcase open and unearths the plan to murder Felicity for financial gain. He calls her on her mobile just as Malcolm is about to carry out her murder. When Felicity finally confronts him, Malcolm coldly tells her “you would have died happy.”
Five years later, Malcolm has reinvented himself as a Health and Safety instructor in Oban, Scotland. This time he sets his sights on an attractive, independently wealthy nurse named Simone (Archie Panjabi). Simone’s relationship with her current boyfriend is on the rocks so Malcolm goes on the charm offensive, and even fakes leukaemia to illicit her sympathy.
Meanwhile, a chance encounter between Jane and a senior police officer has reignited interest in Malcolm’s past. DS Charlie Henry (John Hannah) of Oban Police is on a relentless pursuit of him as he tries to prevent Simone from becoming the next victim.
Time is now of the essence as Simone is now living with Malcolm having fallen head of heels in love.
