@zvucnjak Yes. When the season finale was shot, Castle hadn't been renewed for season 8 yet so they couldn't do a cliffhanger like the one they did at the end of S6.

@Imaginary Beckett is never gonna fit into any role in politics, but as for captaining, it could work, as long as it's the same precinct, but if it's a new one then I would rather not see that at all, moving her to a whole new precinct means an entirely different supporting cast, that's gonna suck, we all love Esposito and Ryan too much to see them being replaced..
@Foaman Exactly ... my very first thought was that they might ruin the show's dynamic with this senate thing, I really hope they don't do it but come up with another solution. I mean I quite like the idea and it would really have been a proper series finale since the viewer could imagine whether Beckett's becoming captain or running for the senate or anything else, but I don't know if I really want an official answer to that question ... :)
But then again I think I didn't like the P.I.-arc at first and it turned out to be very interesting and funny, so I'll try to keep a positve mind about this haha.
@Imaginary I agree, this would have been a proper series finale, hopefully they won't ruin the new season especially with the whole running for the senate thing, that would be awful..
I was really happy when I saw that they're bringing the show back for an 8th season ... but now that I've seen the finale, I'm not so sure anymore. I think it would have been a quite good series finale as well and now I'm afraid that they might mess it up in the end ... :D
