Jonathan's life revolves around his nine year-old son Spencer, and he's always deferred the big and small decisions to partner Claire. So when she demands that he leave, Jonathan realises he has to try to preserve his son's happiness in the face of the break-up. As his relationship falls apart, the conflict-averse parent takes the youngster with him to live with his sister and her wife, creating an unlikely family unit.
