After a full rewatch: the finale is great, but seasons 5 and 6 prioritize lore, attempting to solidify but not fully define this larger cosmology and myth, at the expense of the characters and momentum. Rather than give meaningful plot lines to Claire, Sayid, Jin, Sun, Locke, and more, they get sidelined as more and more new characters get introduced, few of which end up mattering (Ilana?!?). And the stakes and goals are so amorphous for the last two seasons, changing or evolving from episode to episode in strange ways, as opposed to S1-4 where there would be groups of people deciding what steps to take to reach a goal. The end of s6 gets that back some, with the mission to kill Man in Black and protect the light made somewhat concrete, but it's too little too late. A great show, not a perfect one.
This is a great finale. Exactly what I would have expected, but still surprising in the best ways.

@saltzman I can't see a like button so I'm just responding and saying: "Hell yeah, brother!"
Well, when I started to watch Lost, this series finale had already aired. People kept saying the show went spiraling down with every increasing season, but I can't agree with that. This series finale was the most fantastic and touching thing I've ever watched... It conclued all the open plots and gave all our favorite characters the end they deserved. SHOW SPOILER From Jack's opening eye to Jack's closing eye (that was extra-nice, by the way), Lost managed to grip me tight and lead me through 121 thrilling, earth-shattering (and that's literal, when it comes to the finale :P) and jaw-dropping episodes. I'll miss this show forevermore.
@JCalcines What?Why?
This is the best finale it could possibly have and I shall defend it for as long as I live.
Great serie. Not a great final at all.
I don't even
Worst series finale of all time.
