Beverly Hills, 90210 - 1x09 The Gentle Art of Listening

The Gentle Art of Listening

Brenda becomes a trainee for a teen crisis hotline, although Andrea questions her devotion. Brenda violates the rules by taking a call after hours. The caller is a date rape victim, who suffers the same fate on three consecutive nights. Brenda is desperate to learn the girl's identity and help her. Brandon believes that a masseuse has a romantic interest in him. He also dodges a freshman admirer, who similarly gives the cold shoulder to Scott. Music: "Get Up! (Before the Night Is Over)" by Technotronic (#7, 1990); "Since I Met You Baby" by Ivory Joe Hunter (#12, 1956); "Devil or Angel" by the Clovers

I can now say from experience that Brenda and Ohndrea's crisis line doesn't seem very realistic (shocking!) but this is still one of the better episodes of the season. "Bonnie's" voice grates -- as does "Nina's" entire presence. Watch for an appearance from that Nikki girl from the "Miss Bliss" episodes of "Saved By the Bell"; here, she plays some fawning freshman who drools over Brandon. I didn't care about that, but I DID sort of want to find out if anything else ever happened between her and Poor Soon-to-be-Dead Scott Scanlon!

(P.S. I wish the DVD version of this episode included Technotronic instead of whatever it was that replaced it in that cheerleading scene!)
