SciFi TV show about the U.S. National Security Agency reverse engineering a time traveling machine using the wreckage found from the Roswell incident. The alien power drive only provides enough energy to "backstep" seven days, and takes seven days to recharge. When a chrononaut makes a "backstep," no one remembers what happened in the original timeline. To handle the stress requires a person with an extraordinary resistance to pain and an ability to handle the confusion of no one remembering the last seven days of their life with him every time he goes on a mission. Frank Parker (Jonathan LaPaglia) is that man.
Assisting him in his backsteps are the creators of the Backstep Project, Dr. Isaac Mentnor (Norman Lloyd) and Dr. John Ballard (Sam Whipple). Dr. Bradley Talmadge (Alan Scarfe) is the head of Backstep, and Russian expatriate Dr. Olga Vukavitch (Justina Vail) tends to Frank's medical needs. Nathan Ramsey (Nick Searcy) is the fiercely patriotic head of security who barely tolerates Frank, and Captain Craig Donovan (Don Franklin) is Frank's backup chrononaut.
Together, the Backstep team send Frank back to prevent national cataclysms, terrorist attacks, plagues, military incidents, and anything that threatens the security of the United States.
