Meet two brothers, one whose path will shape the future of us all.
Two brothers, Jack (Matthew Long) and Bobby McCallister (Logan Lerman), have their lives shaped by their eccentric mother, Grace McCallister (Christine Lahti). As college professor and single mother, she works hard to make sure that her personality and strong beliefs and values, sometimes through unconventional ways, are instilled in her sons, one of which will grow up to be President of the United States.
In the town of Hart, Missouri, several other people come into the brothers' lives, some of which will change their futures forever. With the arrival of Peter Benedict (John Slattery), the new college president, and his daughter Courtney (Jessica Paré), Grace finds an unexpected friendship in her new boss and colleague, and both Jack and Bobby form bonds with Courtney.
Jack's best friend, Marcus Ride (Edwin Hodge), also has an impact on Jack's life. Their friendship is tested time and time again, and often find themselves competing against each other, both on and off the track, but they are always there for each other when they're needed the most.
Bobby finds a friend in Warren Feide (recurring guest star Dean Collins), who complements Bobby's quirks and both try to find their place as they enter the world of junior high school.
Each episode demonstrates how the events of the present shape the the decisions of the future President of the United States, which, in turn, change the world. Flash-forwards are shown of the world 40 years from present day and how America has changed as a country in 2040. As the story unfolds, each episode examines an aspect of the President, and how events from his past determined how he would deal with times of crisis and scandal. With the influences of his mother and close friends, President McCallister, nicknamed "The Great Believer" became one of the centuries greatest leaders.
