@Wanderlust I feel like the difference is, Lexa was raised in a society at war. The sky people, although confined to space and at each other's throats (aka air locking and whatnot) still had more freedom than the grounders. I mean, yes. They had a solid plan and it likely would've worked, but when you've been fighting for years - sometimes all you really want is for it to stop. To stop /any/ more of your people from dying. Because even though the plan probably would've worked, she still would've lost more people. I think it's important to remember that the grounders have literally been dealing with this for years. They have a completely different outlook on life, and surviving. They are a warrior race that recognises that sometimes battles can only be won by surrendering.

Again, I totally get where you're coming from and I do agree that she should've stayed and helped fight, but I also understand the decision she made. When you consider that the sky people must seem like invaders/enemies in their own way, it is also easy to understand her choice. Yes, there was a truce and an understanding - but they're still a foreign people that intruded on grounder space.

@dreamtolove i agree with you, that a leader should put her people first, but i still think the difference between clarke and lexa is that clarke killed people who was torturing and killing her friends, and she did it when she had absolutely no other choices. lexa could've easily stuck to the plan, the door to mt weather was there, open, there were like 95% of chances they would've won, freed everyone and with minimun casualties. and the only reason she was there, so close to the mountain, able to strike that deal, was clarke and the arkers, who risked bellamy's life, their own lives just to get her there. that's the whole point of an alliance, to do something to help your ally so that your ally can do something to help you in return. it's not like that's the only way she could save her people, she had a good plan right there, a plan she agreed with. that's why everyone's hating on her, if that were the only choice she could've made, i think a lot of people would've been more understanding and forgiving toward her. and i think the way the writers presented the whole thing (the door just opened, the grounders 1 metre away from running into the mountain, and suddendly lexa appearing and shutting everything off) was meant to make everyone resentful towards lexa.

@Wanderlust but war isn't about being honorable? like, the whole point of the show is that no one is good and no one is pure - everyone is capable of doing horrible things to save their own life/lives of their people/those most important to them. I'm not saying she's a great commander, or that what she did was right. I'm just saying people shouldn't be hating on her for choosing to put her people first, when technically, that is her most important job: to keep /her/ people safe.

Clarke pulled a similar stunt in the final ep. She killed innocents (and a bunch of super gross people, yeah. but still, lots of innocents) for the sake of her people. A leader puts their people first, always. Even if that means befriending the absolutely disgusting (and undeserving) enemy.

@dreamtolove except she would've never got half as close as she got without the help of clarke, raven and everyone. the grounders were used by the mountain people for years and they did NOTHING about it, because of the fog, because of the reapers, because they had no technological means to do anything to save their own people. clarke and lexa were allies but while clarke's job was to take them to mount weather, lexa's job was supposedly to actually physically fight the battle (since that's basically the ONE thing grounders are able to do) and right when her time comes she chicken out and strikes a deal with the mountain men? wow, so honorable, great commander they've got.

why are people hating on lexa. she did what she said she'd always do: protect her people. head over heart. war isn't pretty, or kind.
