Supernatural

Supernatural

Ever since he was young, Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki, Gilmore Girls) has tried to escape his past. After his mother’s mysterious death, Sam’s father set out to seek revenge on the evil forces that killed her and destroy other evil beings along the way. Unlike Sam, Dean (Jensen Ackles, Smallville), Sam’s older brother, was eager to follow in his father’s footsteps, learning the tricks of the trade, and entering the “family business”. Sam on the other hand, determined to break free of the “family business”, left home as soon as he graduated from high school, unwavering from his quest to start a “normal” life on his own.

Just as Sam’s new life was going perfectly with an upcoming interview at a prestigious law school and a beautiful girlfriend by his side, Dean arrived at Sam’s doorstep to let his brother know that their father (recurring guest star Jeffrey Dean Morgan) disappeared on a hunting trip. Upon hearing the startling news, Sam, though reluctant, had no choice but to help Dean track down their father.

Now, on the road together in search of their father, tracking evil supernatural forces along the way, Dean and Sam have begun to reunite after spending several years apart. However, during their journey, old sibling rivalries resurface, and the effects of their strange upbringing are shown. Sam remains wary of their father and mission while Dean, although cocky and fearless on the surface, still tries to come to grips with his mother’s horrific death. But together with their different views and personalities, Sam and Dean are able to save lives by destroying the evil beings that haunt the earth.

Season 7 is not supposed to be the final season, according to the president of The CW:

@oranges

I still enjoy it as well. I mean having the creator take a step back or leave can kill a show, but I think this one will be alright.

I kind of like to think of it like when two people come up with good ideas, but refuse to use each others. Then they end up combining ideas and it ends up worse because both ideas were written for all they contained, not for taking another into account.

With that said, Kripke built the show to withstand anything. Look at how they pulled off all those ridiculous storylines. When I heard the Angels one, I never thought it would work. Most other shows would have crashed trying something like that. He built a core and a world (That was great how one of your favorite episodes showed they weren't even in our world :) where anything can happen/work for a storyline.

I remember the talk years ago two. Both guys wanted off the show, but got talked into staying. I'm glad they did. As I recall, Kripke signed on for more, first, they followed.

@ColeFrost I agree with you entirely as well :)

From your links it seems that Eric Kripke is still quite active- which is good. But also keep in mind that the other writers are still there. They make/break a show as much as any one producer and as long as Sera intends to 'stay true' .. what can go wrong :P

I remember when I first read about the five season plan years back. I thought "That's great, but a little sad". 6x15 was a favourite ep of mine and I enjoy the fact the show is still on air and entertaining me with every episode.

@oranges

Thanks. :)

Anyway, I agree with you for the most part. My problem ends up being that Eric Kripke (The guy behind the first five seasons) no longer runs the show. Last season felt a little down from the previous few and that was with a new showrunner, Sera Gamble.

Now, I believe that this show can keep going strong because they built a perfect foundation for success. They can be good when they are on story, when they venture off, when they introduce new anything, or whatever. They have been able to even just goof around for a whole episode and still have it be high end.

I still worry though... I do think the show will never peak again. Kripke stated years ago that he thought of the show as being only a five season show. He and the guys that star in it never wanted to go past. Perhaps this was for a reason.

I'll still watch it to the end.

@ColeFrost I find myself confident good (episodes) will prevail. Bobby as regular would be awesome, but if they can't find the money for him then that's how it is.

Castiel not being regular seems a little under wraps. Probably to minimise misha fan backlash :)

If the showrunners say they have creative plans that involve less of him, then it's probably for the best.

Thanks as always for the news Cole.

This hasn't really been discussed here, but a while back Misha Collins (Castiel) stated he won't be a series regular for season 7:

http://www.tvline.com/2011/05/supernatural-misha-collins-season-7/

The people behind it now claim they are trying to do a really good and fresh story for season 7.

There is also speculation that Jim Beaver could finally be bumped up to full time. This has been a long time coming, in my opinion. Still though, it is unlikely to happen. Interesting article:

Renewed:

This is great. They seem to do no wrong when it comes to storylines, so I'm sure it will hold up next season. A couple of years ago they wanted to quit the show, but I doubt it now since it is more popular than ever and it continues to impress, even when they go off story, every third episode or so.

Hilarious and action packed.

Supernatural is a rare show in that is has really permanently evolved over it's course. Better yet, it hasn't failed it.

Probably not for everyone, but supernatural has always (and still does- for the haters) had more substance than you'd think.
