The Walking Dead tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home.
The Walking Dead is based upon the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard.

Looks like AMC, for some reason, has decided to cut the budget a bit. This makes no sense... The show destroyed everything that has ever been on AMC, in terms of any rating category. It more than likely has more viewers than all the other AMC dramas combined. It set records for target demographics.
Oh well. Things not looking quite as good as they once were.
Short, but good read:

Hopefully they back off. This show needs a good sized budget just to pay all the extras and for all the makeup. :)
Ugh this is good stuff
Awesome show!
@timoerlemans Ah, yes. That's what i meant. Sorry.
@Twylight The Walking Dead airs on AMC, not on HBO.
@lorro 6 episodes is the regular amount for new shows on HBO. The next season will probably have 13 episodes.
why is the season so extremely short? 6 episodes, what a joke :)
@droes I don't know of anything _perfectly_ similar, but for a post-apocalyptic drama minus zombies you could check out the show "Jericho" with Skeet Ulrich on DVD. Maybe the films "Outbreak" and "I Am Legend", mixed in a blender together...
Also, The Walking Dead has been a long running comic, you can try buying (or downloading on usenet) the comics. The show follows them pretty closely.
Loved the show. Could anyone point me to something similar to bridge the gap between the 2 seasons?
This show isn't too bad, but I'm a little bit disappointed by the lack of emotion. There is no depth in this show, even if the most centered characters would die, I wouldn't feel any emotion at all.
I love this show ! :D
The Zombie Apocalypse is inevitable.
Well that was disappointing...
SHOW SPOILER The we're trapped and can't get out, huge HD screen and deathclock seemed straight out of an episode of Star Trek or something.
Don't get me wrong, great show, but totally out of place in this show.

@lennert about the making compromises, if a tv-show maker does not make compromises you don't have a returning series....
for example in dollhouse they didn't make compromises, jericho didn't either, and as last example surface... all tree had much potential and dit not be predictable, but because the makers didn't compromise to the standards of the networks the series got cancelled.
but i understand you'r poit of view....
I'v just seen the season finale and i tought it was great.....
can't wait for season two.
Meh, I discussed this over and over again on some other forums, I'm tired of it. (Although I agree 100 % with @lennert).
"Making a TV-show is making compromises." that's BS. Shows in the other 25% prove otherwise. And it's wrong to be gentle in your criticism towards a TV/Movie adaptation just because you happened to like the (comic) book. (And to use your knowledge of the latter the fill the gaps in the story of the former)
Let's conclude with that I hope next season will be closer to the comic book version of the story.
@lennert @kakature 75% of currently running series are predictable, but with TWD there's a twist, if you have read the comics you'll know the basic storyline but with some new elements, and if you haven't read the comics you should because then you'll get a much deeper insight in the series......
the TV-show is a somewhat toned down version of the comics...
One example, SHOW SPOILER last epp the scene in the forrest with rick and shane. In the TV-show nothing happens, shane aims his gun at rick but he does not pull the trigger.
In the commics SHOW SPOILER shane gets shot by rick's son...
If they had put that in the series it would not be predictable, but hey they didn't put it in. In the commics the group of survivors is also smaller...
Making a TV-show is making compromises.
I agree with the characters being stereotypes and predictable. However, I don't agree with focussing more on zombie slaying. It's fine as it is, I'd just like to see better dialogues, drama and character development. More surviving in a zombie apocalypse as well.
The characters are stereotypes. You can almost always predict their every move. Example: Rick will always annoyingly do the right thing. His ideas are always good. This might work out if the series focused more on zombie slaying and surviving (like Dawn of the Dead, Zombieland) instead of trying to be the next best drama series with a zombie flair. Then they should have used "The Road" as inspiration. Like I said, half the episodes are bad. The first 2 were good. Ep 3 & 4 were miserably bad and 5 was OK.
