The Wire is an American television drama series set and produced in Baltimore, Maryland.
Each season of The Wire focuses on a different facet of the city of Baltimore. They are, in order: the illegal drug trade, the port system, the city government and bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media.
Despite never seeing a large commercial success or winning major television awards, The Wire has been described by many critics as the greatest television series ever made.
The show is recognized for its realistic portrayal of urban life, its literary ambitions, and its uncommonly deep exploration of sociopolitical themes.

5 breathtakingly series
Very, very well-built story. I guess it's the only police so much detailed tv show. Will miss it.
Where is that 6 star button?
@arkady Alright, thanks.
@Artifex Well... It's not 'drama' like in relationships stuff, it's just topics cops have to deal with (drugs, prostitution, murders) very realistic so it is sad and rough. My advice: try a couple of episodes if you will so you can feel a bit the tone of the series but don't expect it to change much (it just grows more exciting at times because there's more action at some point). I like it but since I don't fancy cops shows and this kind of stuff I don't see it as 'the best show' or even one you have to watch without excuses. It's a good show, but there are others that will probably connect more with you if this is not your type.
For those who miss The Wire, read the book by David Simon : "Homicide". It's the true story on which The Wire was based.
Bring back The Wire
Poll on facebook page with almost 20k votes gives the seasons this order: S4>S1>S3>S2>S5
4 with a big lead, 5 being way behind. For me personally I only doubt between 2 and 5 for that last position. This coming from someone who watched it 5 times now. Cover to cover ;-)
Guess if I had to give it a score I'd give S4 a 10, S1 a 9.5, S3 a 9, S2 and S5 a 8.5. Just to show that no matter what the order people give the seasons, they are all worth watching and rewatching. Best series I've ever seen, for sure.
sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit, best thing ive ever seen
finished it last night. what an awesome show. very rich in detail. amazing characters, i mean sheeeeeeeeeeeeit! haha
I don't really like drama, will I like this show? Or is drama the main focus of the entire series?
Season 1 to me is the best because of the focus on D'Angelo who was a great character.
The greatest television series to hit the masses of the past two decades. Without a doubt. Idris Elba, Dominic West, Wood Harris, the guy who plays D'angelo, Paul Schriber, Aiden Gillen, with all fucking fantastic performances.
Three episodes and I can't shake the feeling that this is The Show.
The best show ever. Gonna rewatch it again.
Took a little while to get into, but now I love The Wire. Looking forward to watching season 2 now
Interesting article about a possible season 6 that looked like a shot at the government. The Attorney General actually asked for one and David Simon said he would be willing to do it, if the government changed some of the drug laws.

One of the best and my personal favorite show of all time.
Great show.
