Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Political and sexual intrigue abound. The primary families are the Stark, Lannister, and Baratheon families. Robert Baratheon, King of Westeros, asks his old friend Eddard Stark to serve as his chief advisor. Eddard, suspecting that his predecessor had been murdered, accepts so that he can investigate further. It turns out more than one family is plotting to take the throne. The Queen's family, the Lannisters, may be hatching an incestuous plot to take control. Across the sea, the last surviving members of the previously deposed ruling family, the Targaryens, are also plotting a return to power. The conflict between these families and others, including the Greyjoys, the Tullys, the Arryns, and the Tyrells, leads to war. Meanwhile, in the north, an ancient evil awakens. Amidst war and the political confusion, a brotherhood of misfits, The Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and the horrors beyond.

Anxious to see the next episode. Would recommand this to anyone who likes good historical phantasy.
@Dexels About a third into book 3 now. So far I like this one best of all. Truely the most amazing series of books I've read in at least a decade.
@Jakurdo I absolutely agree agree with your review of the first book. I'm on 60% with book 2 and I can say that A Clash of Kings is omgwtfwowcakes!!~! too.
@Thud I think the show is just going to be called Game of Thrones (note: the first book is actually called A Game of Thrones, not just Game of Thrones). I think it highly unlikely that they would actually rename a show for a new season.
By the way, I've just finished the first novel (professional review: omgwtfwowcakes!!~!)
Epic show, started reading the book. Halfway through. Very cunning and Martin shows different views on it, I would recommend it to anybody. Anyway, the second season. What will they call it, Game of Thrones S2 or Clash of Kings(as the title of the next novel)?
@jeffreyv Same here
Great show, but I do look forward to some more action
I've watched the first 2 episodes and I think this show has great potential. I'll definitely stick with it for a while.
@Lemon Same here, been watching all the previews over and over :p
2 more days and another new episode, cant wait!
@anythingelse I would definatly recommend reading the books. Lots of extra nuances and backstory (as always with books compared to their movies/tv iterations). Best books I've read in years.
I'm not really into epic fantasy genre, but "Game of Thrones" makes really good show. I'm considering reading books now, because it seems to be interesting and complex story. Can't wait to see more!
Indeed... Here is a link to the press release:
http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/04/19/hbo-renews-game-of-thrones-for-second-season-premiere-grossed-4-2-million-on-hbo-sunday-night/89922
Solid numbers. Could have been a little higher. I see it being a climber. I doubt those numbers reflect the free preview HBO did.
Second season confirmed by HBO.
Fuck yeah!!
@walterbishop English please.
gabematz, it would be better not to answer your question, and in my opinion Game of Thrones its' not really like LORT, they are quite different. You would compare soon, anyway if you like to read books, read them now hehe
People are saying that it's like LOTR, but is there any magic in this show? Or, at least in the books? (Didn't read it)
Agreed, just have to look at what they did with Rome ... they don't really seem to have a problem with rape or incest.
@pb5k: considering it will be on HBO and there are quite graphic scenes in series like True Blood already I don't think they will shy away from the somewhat more graphic scenes...
I've read the first 3 books...I wonder how sanitized the televised version will be, particularly the incest and rape elements.
