@janp Yes, you're right, and it's nice that you are seeing it that way. But what I meant is not really that you promote it more in here, but that you can interpret the result of the vote accordingly. I understand your position, it must be a lot of work to create the importer, and without knowing if it will be used and for how long. But I doubt FmTV will change again, it's been 4 month since the Tvrage situation, we hardly got any communication about it, they fix the thing like they could, and now the site does not serve any purpose any more. And still no communication from the staff or the owner. I consider this site dead.
@FireFlow You're correct about the importer not getting more visibility. We posted it on the site and social channels hoping fmtv users would pick it up and share it. We know that posting it here would get more attention. But it's not really ok for the staff of tvm to be here with the sole intention of promoting the importer.
To answer your other question. The reason why we made the importer to begin with was because fmtv had broken for several weeks and we were unable to communicate with the owner about becoming the data provider.
If we do fix the importer it will be the last time. If it breaks again due to changes on fmtv. We won't try again.
@janp Thank you. I will Probably make a thread tomorrow with my remarks. It's only very subtle changes to what you have. But I think it would make it so much easier to use, and so much more enjoyable. Especially as a person just joining. As logging all the shows and episode has been a real slog today. I'm not sure if many people who have a big back catalog would bother doing what I've done today.
Edit: You're site is 1 year old!? Really? It's amazing for that! If so, I'm really really impressed!
I think there is 2 reasons that the importing feature is not popular : - It's not clear how you should vote in the message. I had to read your profile on here to see that you have to follow the message to vote. - And TVmaze users don't care, since they are already TVmaze users. I think most of Followmytv users don't know about it, hence the lack of popularity.
I would appreciate that you reopen it, but I totally understand that you may have other priorities if nobody use it. About that, is the owner of followmytv cool about the importer ?
Anyway, fortunately I imported most of my shows in november, so it won't be a long list to update this time. Thanks for the time saver.
Spend all day logging some shows. Nowhere near even 1/4 of the shows I've watched, and it took all day. Plus, I didn't rate each episode. Took way too long. Had to give up rating, and found out how to bulk "watch" finally so just had to do that for now. Still so many shows I haven't logged.
A day on your site. I see so many great features and positives. Also straight away saw so many ways it could be better. I looked on the suggestions page for improvements. I "searched" for key words, but didn't come up with many results. But also, I don't want to start threads with things that got asked years ago (coz I'm knew) There is a few really simple things that would make your site so much easier and more enjoyable.
I've been so disillusioned with this site since about last October or November. Nothing seems to have changed.
It's just the thought of having to re-log, re-rate, and re-add every single show and episode I've watched, all again. I'm a big contributor on here, and the thought of having to start from scratch feels devastating.
I've looked at your site, it looks good. You also have all the shows that I've watched and had to write down on a Word Document because they don't even exist on here, let alone updating the episodes. I also really like the vote system on the pending features section. Which shows you are actively coming up with ideas to improve the site, and getting and giving feedback to the members.
@ForgotMyLines I understand. Obviously we'd rather fix it and spare fmtv users the hassle of having to start from scratch.
But there is nothing preventing fmtv from making changes like last time, which will break the importer again.
Some other sites have cooperated with us in this kind of situation by creating an exporter for it's users. This solution would be far more reliable then how the current importer works.
Yes, I see what you mean. The vote count is very disappointing.
I've joined up to have a look around, but starting from scratch having to log and rate every TV show is probably something I wouldn't do. It would take me months.
@ForgotMyLines the importer got broken when fmtv performed changes to its code last time.
Since it's quite a bit of work to get it working again, and we don't want to waste time that could be spent on other features. We opened up the pending features item to see if there was any interest from users to have the importer fixed.
So far there hasn't been that much interest for it.
Comments
@janp "The data being sent by fmtv is inconsistent". Who would have guessed!!
@kakature we checked out the error. The data being sent by fmtv is inconsistent. Unfortunately we're unable to determine what that is exactly.
Hey Jan, looks like the importer isn't working for me :(
Cause unknown. If the error persists, please notify us!

@janp You are welcome. Hope they are helpful.
@ForgotMyLines Hey, thanks for posting your remarks. I'll answer over there. :)

@ForgotMyLines I doubt you'll find things that were asked years ago since we've only been up for 1 year :)
Glad you like it. You can indeed mark till where you've watched a show.
Go ahead and make a thread with all your remarks. We'll discuss them and move the ones we find interesting to our pending list.
cheers,
Jan

Is the transfer thing open at the moment? Or are you waiting for a swell of people?
Edit: Just read the bit on your site. How do you vote?
