Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Political and sexual intrigue abound. The primary families are the Stark, Lannister, and Baratheon families. Robert Baratheon, King of Westeros, asks his old friend Eddard Stark to serve as his chief advisor. Eddard, suspecting that his predecessor had been murdered, accepts so that he can investigate further. It turns out more than one family is plotting to take the throne. The Queen's family, the Lannisters, may be hatching an incestuous plot to take control. Across the sea, the last surviving members of the previously deposed ruling family, the Targaryens, are also plotting a return to power. The conflict between these families and others, including the Greyjoys, the Tullys, the Arryns, and the Tyrells, leads to war. Meanwhile, in the north, an ancient evil awakens. Amidst war and the political confusion, a brotherhood of misfits, The Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and the horrors beyond.

@Lemon Yes the books are totally worth to read, as somebody like yourself who didn't read nothing, I started reading the complete serie after season 1 ended.
Right now am at book 4 (slow reader i know lol)
Like Tiagoh mentioned about the descriptions are true. But don't let this be are reason for staying a way.
@Lemon Completely worth it. Sometimes Martin (the author, of course) gets a little bit repetitive in the descriptions, but besides that, I find it amazing. I mean, he creates the perfect world here, with such interesting characters and incredibly delivered plot lines and twists.
If it is ok for a beginner? Of course, very accessible and I bet you'll get stuck to it. You should give it a try!

I am way too excited about season two. It might sound weird, but I think that reading the books increases the excitement even more.

@nielstaildeman: well, then you should not watch any movie but the directors cut. you have to boycott all restored and 3D-Versions and stuff as well. There are a lot of movies (especially french ones) that dont feature german subtitles. so i have to watch them in french, without understanding a thing, just to see the original movie?
@quartoxuma If you dub people like john malkovich or bill nighy it's just a shame. You don't edit the image of a movie, so you don't edit the audio of a movie either.
@Dungus: subtitles are not my thing really. I hate things popping up in the middle of the movie. thats just annoying. Don't know what your hatred for german dubbing is all about, but it seems to go with your rude language.
I watched Dexter in both german and english and there is not much difference really. The only thing that annoys me, that you can here it was made in a studio and it looses authenticy.
By the way it is strictly forbidden to download TV material and movies from the internet in germany. So technialy its not that easy as theres always a risk of being arrested for stuff like this (worst case: 3 years of prison).
@nielstaildeman: I Agree, its very important for humor. I would never watch a comedy in a dubbed version. But there are devinately great voice actors.
I dont see why people always have to be so hysterical about stuff like that.
