The TVRage situation
As you may know: We've been using the TVRage API to get all our data (the airdates, episodes,.. ). Their website has been offline for a week by now, so we're preparing for the worst. At this moment Jelle is developing an alternative. We just wanted to let you know that there is no loss of data (and there won't be). All the existing data are safe in our database.
Please let us know if you have any questions about this.
PS. We'll be replying on the mails we received about becoming a moderator / developer this week. Send us an email at info@followmy.tv if you haven't done so already!
-- Update Saturday 10 October --
I (Jelle) am swamped with work at the moment. Will be for another week probably. I secretly hoped tvrage would have come back online but it seems like it's dead for good.
This means that I have to completely rewrite the importer and figure out how to map existing data to new external data.
This takes a long time because that part of the application was designed for speed and is very complex. It would take me several days to change, optimize and test with live data.
Currently I just have no time at all to do this. I'm working 15h + daily at my regular job to finish a big project before its deadline.
I might be able to start work on this update tomorrow for a couple of hours. But it being finished, tested and deployed will take at least a week or two.
Comments
@iturki followshows.com is pretty good and has a nice interface. Probably still prefer here, but in the mean time, it's a good alternative, I would say.
Any suggestions for alternative sites? In case this problem doesn't get fixed soon.
I love FM.TV but this problem is getting to big. If i look at last week, 50% of my shows don't show up in the agenda, i can't track what i watch. For now i've switched to another site but i do hope you guys fix this problem fast...
@Pinacho That sounds like another update on saturday, not like they'll fix it by then, pff...
This has been posted on Followmy.TV's twitter: https://twitter.com/followmytv/status/652143472426663936
@HerMajesty Yeah, I mean it has been almost a month now..
please, just keep us posted, so we know there is some progress at least
Hey guys, how about switching to the TVmaze API? www.tvmaze.com/api
I need the update, comon guys.
How is the situation now? Already some improvement?
I would say switch to the API of TVmaze.
I love this site, but come on already...
What is happening guys, can we get an update? Really want to stick with this website, but it is getting harder everyday.. not knowing what is being new episodes coming and out, and not being able to mark the once I saw from them as watched. Help!!
@JCDirtnap The Problem is, that NONE of these sites are only half as usability friendly as this site.
I like how you guys are linking us to a post that's almost a month old with no real news updates. I wonder how many people have already jumped ship to sites like trakt.tv because of this outage.
When will the episodes be updated again? waiting already for over a month an realy start losing track of my series!
@hot4mix Their not, some shows just had more episodes written up on tvrage before it went offline.
How come some shows are still getting updated?
@pauliusa looks good, but to mark a show as watched isn't as comfortable as here, at least not on mobile if you're following dozens of shows.
this is seriously encouraging me to pay for episodecalendar.com unlimited as the site is simple, nice and convenient. The only disadvantage is 20 shows free limit. here I find many interesting functions, but none of them works 100% properly
